Description:
Grown on a 22-hectares, east-facing parcel of deep clay-limestone soil in Les Sorbins, on the Pommard side of the commune towards Bligny-lès-Beaune, this Bourgogne Côte d'Or comes from vines planted in 1979 and trained in short Guyot. Hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, the fruit undergoes a five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration before warming to 32°C over twelve days, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs, then twelve months' ageing in French oak, 25% new.
True to its appellation, this is a generous, gourmand Pinot Noir with real volume in the mouth, and the 2023 vintage lends it an uncommon power, all dark fruit and sweet spice. The Pommard-adjacent site gives a touch of youthful austerity, so it rewards a little patience. Hold it five to ten years and it will unfurl into notes of faded rose, tobacco and preserved fruit. Give it a good swirl in the glass to let it open fully, and serve at 16–17°C.
